Though recovery is a huge priority, so is reading. Or at least it’s about to become a huge priority again. I just need my stories…
I’m not a really huge collector of material things, but somehow the book (and copies of the book) Pride and Prejudice just…speak to me. I see them in different sizes, with a variety of covers and they just…beckon me. And then the most surprising thing happens – I find myself wanting to collect the copies and stack them and look at them and even talk about them.
And do you want to know the wildest thing?!?
I’ve never completed the book.
I have been reading a few chapters at a time for about three years, returning the book to the shelf. It’s as if I already know that I am going to thoroughly enjoy the story and am already mourning the reality that ending is coming.
So, in order to get over this (and quite honestly myself) I am doing something new!
This July (and prayerfully every July afterwards) I will spend the month reading and savoring and enjoying the book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Each summer, I will read it and then write in the cover something special and captivating about the book or my life while reading it and then send it along to someone else to enjoy with me the next July when I will pick another copy and do the same thing.
Maybe it’s that I’m getting older and am wanting to mark out traditions – which is just not like me – or that I’d like to read, enjoy and re-read books that are favorites and share them with other nerdy, book toting lovers like myself. Either way, I’m starting to embrace the idea that “books” might be one of my top love languages.
Oh! And then once the book is done in July, I’ll gather some friends locally and others remotely to do a Pride and Prejudice related activity. And no, I don’t mean watching the movie. (I haven’t finished the book, I’m holding out on seeing the movie for as long as I can.) The 2017 activity will be cooking a recipe that is from the Jane Austen Cookbook which is on its way to my apartment as we speak.
Leave a note with your name, city and state and where you’ll be reading (or re-reading) Pride and Prejudice from by June 25th in the comments and you’ll be entered into a drawing to receive one of my copies of the book to read along for the July + Pride and Prejudice fun!
