It’s my hope to encourage the world by writing and sending love into the world one journal entry at a time.
I’ve gotten tired of scrolling through the political rants, the negativity and bullying that seems to be dominating so much of our worlds today and thought that I
should could do something. The words we use matter and I hope to inspire more people to use more loving words. So this is me, attempting to create a chance for people to participate in a grand scale, intimate person-to-person journal encouragement experiment.
On July 1st, 2016 – ten very simple, but amazing journals will leave from North Texas to travel to various corners of the earth with heartfelt letters to ten people dear to my heart, some of whom I’ve never met before (but connected with first to be sure they wanted to participate).
The entries will be written to encourage these dear people and inspire them to do the same for the person they’ll send the journal to next.
Each of the journals will include the link to this page and our social media links guiding recipients to the guidelines (listed below) for receiving and then sending the journals on.
Here are the “have-tos” for RECIPIENTS:
1 | You must have shared a valid address with the sender – you won’t want to miss this encouragement.
2a | Be sure to make time to read and ingest the loving encouragement sent to you. Just receive it. You might even make a copy (or two) for a keepsake; who knows when another one will make it back to you.
2b | You might even read previous journal entries – heck, I know I would…
Just don’t remove any of the included pieces and certainly don’t tamper with anything a previous sender has added for their recipient (it wasn’t for you).
3 | Select the next recipient and write a 1-3 page journal entry/letter to this person telling them why they are amazing and encourage them in their life’s endeavors. You’re welcome to include photos or stickers or small items that can stay in the entry, but it is not required. (If you’re going to send an additional gift for them to keep, be sure that it is not bound to the journal in any way.) You have 10 days from the receipt of the journal to write your entry and send the journal on its way. If the journal is being delivered by you rather than via mail, it can’t be to someone who lives in the same residence as you do. Go ahead and drive it across town or take it with you on that next business trip and deliver it to them over dinner at that favorite place where you shared a table and lots of memories.
Take a moment or two to post a photo of your page or you sending the journal along to the next person on any/all of our social media sites. It’ll be so great to see how far each journal goes before it’s filled and returned to home base. When you make a post, be sure to include which journal you’re connected with (see the label on the back cover of the journal.
Since my creativity is most often shared in words, you artsy creatives are invited to decorate the front and back covers of the journal you read making sure that it is all G-rated, non-political and certainly refraining from offensive images and/or text. Make it beautiful, leave your mark, but please remember – these journals are meant to travel and encourage your people and to inspire them to do the same.
Here are the “get-tos” for the SENDERS:
1 | Be sure to send a quick shout out on one of our social media outlets to let us know which journal you’ve received (example: I just got #jfy journal #8 and am so excited to read it and send it on its way) and are now sending along on its way. You can share to any of our social media platforms on the sticker inside the front cover of the journal.
2 | Choose a person to send this journal to who may need encouragement of ANY kind. They are new at their job, a family that has newly adopted a child, a friend who has recently published that book, that travel companion who you have had part ways with or that person that mentored you decades ago but every now and again they weigh on your heart and something just tells you to reach out and let them know how very much they’ve meant to you. The goal is to encourage. Encourage! Encourage! Encourage!
3 | Send the journal by the 10th day of receipt.
Let’s say, you received the journal today – then count 10 days from the day you opened it (not finally sat down to read it) and day 10 is the deadline for you getting it out of your hands and on the road to the next person. Gotta keep the encouragement moving…
IF YOU RECEIVE A JOURNAL & YOUR LETTER WAS THE ONE THAT FILLED IT UP email me and I’ll trade you that one for a new one and reimburse you the postage too!
IF YOU’D LIKE TO START A NEW ONE – send yours along to the next person and email me; I’d like to follow your journal and possibly add you to our JFY team!
